Flying with a baby: what earns space in the bag
Cabin space is the constraint. Everything below survives that test, and a great deal of baby travel gear does not.
Check the airline first
Lap beds, seat extenders and any device that attaches to the aircraft seat are subject to airline policy, and policies differ by carrier and aircraft.
No retailer can approve these on an airline's behalf. Confirm before you fly rather than at the gate.
Tray table covers
A cover turns the dirtiest surface within reach into a usable play area, and the pocketed versions hold the things that otherwise end up on the floor.
This is the item most parents are sceptical about and then repack every trip.
Disposable bibs
The reason disposables exist is that a wet fabric bib has to travel home with you. On a plane that is the entire argument.
A pack takes almost no space and removes a genuine annoyance.
Something to attach toys
Toy straps are the difference between dropping a toy once and dropping it eleven times. On a plane there is nowhere for it to go but the floor.
They work equally well on a stroller and a high chair.
A neck pillow that suits a car seat
Infant travel pillows support the head in a seat rather than in a bed. Getting the right kind matters more than the brand.
Check it works with the seat you actually have.
Keep the change bag shallow
Deep bags mean digging in a confined space. Wide and shallow with clear compartments is faster in a seat row.
Pack for one-handed access, because that is what you will have.
Less than you think
Every experienced traveller packs less the second time. Take one comfort item, not four, and buy nappies at the destination.
Weight in the cabin is a cost you pay continuously.
What it costs
Across the 22 items currently listed, prices run from $5.29 to $32.99, with the middle of the range around $15.99. That spread is worth knowing before you start comparing, because the cheapest and dearest options here are usually not the same kind of product at all.
Shipping is a flat $5.95 per order and free once the order reaches $42.00, which is set out in full on the Shipping Policy page.
